I started out worshipping the “cringe” style of comedy.  I think lots of my “act” (and I use that term loosely) still maintain lots of cringe.  I was pretty adamant about never waivering on my hardline stance.  I don’t think I’ve softened, I think it’s more a sign of maturity to learn how to fight fire with water instead of with fire.  I’ll always be a cringe comic at heart but I’m starting to realize the importance of stretching out and diversifying my material. 

Recently a comedian approached me and said, “Well, YOU would have no problem with doing a clean (curse word free) set.”  I was pretty taken aback.  I couldn’t believe how far I’ve come; there are actually people who now know me strictly as a “clean” act, completely ignorant of my dirty jokes (which were my bread and butter for SO long). 

I think I’m still a pretty dirty comic, but I’m learning how to be dirty.  It was actually so simple (aren’t the simplest answers always right in front of your face?).  I’ve learned everything has its own process and dirty material has it, too.
